Denali National Park Bus Tours

There are a lot of options for traveling into Denali National Park. We recommend the “Shuttle Bus Tour” offered by the National Park Service — the shuttle lets you get on and off the bus as you please, so you can hike for a while, take wildlife photographs, then catch another bus to continue on to Wonder Lake.

There is no food available once you enter Denali National Park, so you will need to take your own food and drinks into the park.

There are 20-plus hours of daylight during the summer. Consider a 7:30am or later bus tour so you can enjoy breakfast, served from 6:00am to 11:00am at The Perch Restaurant.

Denali Park Activities

Denali National Park area has a wide variety of activities to enjoy — from extreme to mild. Here are a few we suggest.

Denali Air

Denali Air has been in operation since 1970. Their private airstrip is located in the heart of the Alaska Range on the Parks Highway (mile 229.5), just south of the road entrance to Denali National Park. Their central location gives you easy access to either side of the Alaska Range, ensuring the best possible viewing opportunities.

The Denali Outdoor Center

Denali Outdoor Center (D.O.C.) are Denali National Park’s paddle-rafting specialists! This Nenana River paddle-rafting adventure offers hands-on action and is our most popular Alaska whitewater river trip. With the protection of “drysuits” and experienced guides, D.O.C. runs more Alaska whitewater for a more exciting ride. Experience the beautiful Nenana River Gorge with all it has to offer.

Era Helicopters LLC

Era Helicopters offers stunning views of Denali National Park and the surrounding area — home to North America’s highest peak. View mammoth peaks, ancient glaciers and park residents: moose, sheep and bear. Their base, one mile from the park entrance, offers a variety of tours to suit all passengers, operating approximately mid-May through mid-September. Complimentary shuttle service from most Denali-area hotels.

Denali Backcountry Jeep Safari

Take the wheel of a 4-wheel-drive Jeep Wrangler® and follow your guide on a spectacular journey into Denali’s backcountry. Your adventure begins near the park entrance, then heads north on the George Parks Highway toward Healy and onto the historic Stampede Road — made famous in Jon Krakauer’s “Into the Wild.” Two-way radios let your guide share the area’s rich history; on a clear day you may glimpse Mt. McKinley, and watch for moose and bear along the way.

Black Diamond Golf

Black Diamond is a challenging course with Alaskan hazards — such as a tundra marsh or the occasional moose hoof print. It’s a relatively short course, which makes it accessible and fun for any style of play, and the design makes for a quick round that fits into almost any travel schedule. See you on the greens!
